It was a rare opportunity to trek through rebel territory to where The Kahuzi-Biega Parc sits on the perimeter of dense jungles. The four hours I spent with Mugaruka, my Warrior Gorilla, was life changing and left me with profound respect for what these amazing creatures have inured during the decade long war in this region. This series is a tribute to Mugaruka as well as the rangers who have risked there lives to protect these last 211 habituated Lowland Gorilla.
